Get BALOO Trained — Two Upcoming Opportunities to Support our Pack

Hi Pack 972 Families,

Does your family love our pack campouts? Here's a way to help make sure we can keep having them: Pack 972 needs BALOO-trained adults!

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is the required training for any adult leading a Cub Scout overnight camping trip. Scouting America requires at least one BALOO-trained leader present at every pack overnight — so the more of our leaders (and interested parents!) who complete it, the more flexibility we have to plan great outdoor adventures.

The training includes a short online prerequisite (about 40 minutes, done at your own pace on my.scouting.org) plus a hands-on overnight session with fellow Scouters from around the council. It's genuinely fun — you'll practice fire safety, camp cooking, tent setup, and more, all while camping out yourself.

Two upcoming sessions to consider:

📅 October 10–11, 2026 — Camp Lewis, Battle Ground, WA
Presented by Spirit Lake District. Check-in 8:00 AM Saturday, check-out 12:00 PM Sunday. Cost: Reimbursed by Pack 972! Registration closes October 8, 2026.

📅 April 10–11, 2027 — Butte Creek Scout Ranch, Scotts Mills, OR
Presented by Timberline District, open to all districts. Check-in 8:00 AM Saturday, check-out 12:00 PM Sunday. Cost: Reimbursed by Pack 972! Registration closes April 7, 2027.

Both are overnight sessions — bring your own tent and camping gear, and be ready for a great weekend outdoors.
